Kingston, 31 October 2024 – The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, says the new Minister of Finance, the Honourable Fayval Williams, is an "inspiration and shining example to the nation”.
Minister Grange was reacting to the Prime Minister, Dr the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, appointing Mrs Williams as the Minister of Finance and the Public Service yesterday.
Minister Williams is the first woman to be appointed to the post in the nation’s history.
Minister Grange said she was “extremely proud of Minister Williams’ historic elevation” adding that it was a “most significant achievement in the changing status of women in our country and their contribution to building Jamaica.”
Minister Grange said that Minister Williams has proven competent and effective in her duties and will be a smart head and steady hand in the management of the nation’s finances.
Minister Grange said she looked forward to working with Minister Williams whom she said had shattered a last remaining piece of the glass ceiling into tiny splinters.
“By dint of sheer hard work, courage and commitment to duty, Minister Williams has achieved and has paved the way for other women to rise. She is an inspiration to women and girls, everywhere, to pursue their ambitions, hopes and dreams without limits,” said Minister Grange.
