Sport Minister Meets with Jamaican Olympics-bound Diver, Yona Knight-Wisdom

Sport Minister, Honourable Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange has congratulated Jamaica’s first male diver, Yona Knight-Wisdom, who is set to participate in the upcoming Rio Summer Olympics.

The young diver, who was born in the United Kingdom to a Jamaican father and a Barbadian mother paid a courtesy call on the Sport Minister earlier today, Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at her office in Kingston.

“We are extremely happy that you chose to represent Jamaica, we are even prouder that you will be the first male diver to represent our country at the Olympic Games. All of Jamaica is behind you as you go for gold in Rio,” Minister Grange said.

Wisdom-Knight expressed that he was happy to be on the island and conveyed that since making the decision to represent Jamaica in diving he has not had any regrets.

During the courtesy call, Wisdom-Knight showed off his silver medal received at the FINA Diving World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil earlier this year, to the Sport Minister. She encouraged him to continue doing his best and expressed her confidence in him acquiring a medal at the Rio Olympics.

“I am confident that a gold medal in Rio will replace this silver one. The level of commitment that you have demonstrated is commendable. You have the right attitude and commitment of a champion worthy of a gold medal,’” expressed Minister Grange.
