Research Officer (SOG/ST 6) (NOT VACANT) – January 2020 to August 2021 – Bureau of Gender Affairs

Salary Range: $1,516,597 - $1,802,757 per annum and any allowance(s) attached to the post

JOB PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Research Coordinator, the Research Officer is responsible for conducting gender sensitive research to support the work of the Gender Affairs Division. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS INCLUDE:

  • Plans, organises and implements gender sensitive research in areas relevant to the work of the Bureau of Gender Affairs;
  • Assists in the identification of statistical indicators and methodology to facilitate gender analysis;
  • Develops statistical instruments, conducts research studies, surveys and provide reports related to the findings;
  • Processes and analyses data researched and present findings of research; 
  • Liaises with local, regional and international agencies and other statistical departments towards the collection of sex-disaggregated data for the execution of research activities and dissemination of information;
  • Prepares reports, technical papers, briefing notes, press releases and public educational materials as required;
  • Assists internal and external users of the Gender Documentation Centre with information in the absence of the Librarian.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

Core/Technical

  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Strong computing and information gathering skills
  • Sound knowledge of statistical methods, survey designs and investigative programmes
  • Proficiency in the use of SPSS or other similar statistical applications
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant computer applications and systems
  • Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and conviction of purpose in unfavourable or unpopular situations
  • Ability to effectively work with groups of persons of various social and economic backgrounds

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • First Degree in Social Sciences, Gender and Development Studies, Development Studies or related area;
  • MSc. Degree would be an asset
  • At least three (3) years related work experience
