Kingston, 10 November 2025 – Jamaica has been elected to the Unesco Executive Board which is responsible for the management of the global organisation.
The elections took place at the Unesco General Conference now underway in Samarkand in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Jamaica will serve the Executive Board for the period 2025-2029.
It’s the second time that the Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, will represent Jamaica on the Executive Board having served a four-year term which concluded in 2021.
Minister Grange said that during the forthcoming term, Jamaica would focus on “strengthen[ing] the voice and participation of Small Island Developing States, and the wider Global South” in Unesco.
The Minister said Jamaica would also “champion Priority Africa and Gender Equality.”
