Grange: there is help for victims of gender-based violence

Kingston, 24 December 2025 – The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, has welcomed progress in the investigation into the death of Natalie Gooden, the Westmoreland woman who died following an attack at a house in Cornwall Mountain.

Collin James, a taxi driver, has been charged with murder.

Miss Gooden was found locked up inside the house, beaten and burned.

Minister Grange commended the police who rescued her and the residents who reported the matter.

“We all hoped that she would’ve pulled through but it’s now very important that the members of the community give information to the police to ensure that there is justice for Miss Gooden,” said the Minister.

The Minister called on society to be vigilant and help to end acts of violence against women.

She said the Government has put in place mechanisms to punish perpetrators and help women leave violent situations.

“We now have shelters, we now have hotlines, we now have Domestic Violence Intervention Centres at police stations islandwide,” said Minister Grange.

“So I say to any woman suffering, you can leave an abusive relationship and we will help you.”

The Minister urged people who need help to call the National 24-hour Domestic Violence Hotline at 876-553-0372.
