Grange hails first woman head of Methodist church in Jamaica

Kingston, 8 July 2018 – The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange has welcomed the historic appointment of Christine Gooden Benguche as President of the Jamaica Methodist District.  She is the first woman to be appointed to the post.

Minister Grange:

“I am delighted to hear of the appointment of Christine Gooden Benguche as the head of the Methodist Church in Jamaica.  The Methodists have had a presence in this country for 229 years and it’s the first time that a woman will lead the church in Jamaica.  I’m very happy by this development.  I congratulate the new Bishop and the church.  I pray that she will continue to be an excellent pastor.”

Minister's charge

I remain hopeful because of the giftedness of the Jamaican people; their warmth and creativity; their dynamism and indomitable spirit that have resulted in excellence in all sectors.

It is by tapping into the gifts and awakening the spirit of the Jamaican people that we will, by God’s grace, re-group, re-engineer and re-open to a brighter future with Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport.
