Kingston, 21 June 2022 – The following is a statement from the Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange following the killing of a family of four at their home in Cocoa Piece, Clarendon.
Minister’s Statement
“I share the shock, outrage and sadness of the nation that a mother and her children could be so brutally killed in our beloved Jamaica.
This incident, so vile, is against everything that we stand for in Jamaica.
I went into the community and met members of the family, on behalf of the Member of Parliament, Minister Robert Nesta Morgan, who is on official duty overseas.
We commit to provide the necessary support to the family from across the Government; and I ask that we keep them in our thoughts and prayers at this time.
We cannot allow this to be just another incident over which we express outrage and then move on. We must have justice. That’s the only way we can move on.
I encourage anyone with information to please come forward and help the police to find the perpetrator.
Please, we cannot remain silent. Our silence may be a perpetrator’s greatest weapon.
Let us commit to doing what we can to end the violence and save lives.”
