Kingston, 8 August 2024 – The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, has congratulated Jamaica’s Rasheed Broadbell who took the bronze medal in the 110 metres hurdles at the Olympic Games in Paris today.
It took a photo finish to separate Broadbell — who ran his season’s best time of 13.09 — and the second placed American Daniel Roberts, who also ran 13.09. The race was won by Grant Holloway of the United States in 12.99 seconds.
Orlando Bennett and Hansle Parchment finished 7th and 8th respectively.
Minister Grange thanked Broadbell for “his tremendous effort, for which he should be proud, and which means that Jamaica has medalled in every Olympic 110 hurdles final since 2012 — an incredible achievement.”
Earlier, Russell Clayton and Shiann Salmon finished 5th and 6th respectively in the women’s 400 metres hurdles which was won by Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone in a new world record time of 50.37 seconds.

Minister Grange said she was “overjoyed by the results in the field events, led by the historic victory of Rojé Stona in the [men’s] discus throw where he set a new Olympic Record. This shows the depth in our team.
I also want to big up Shanieka Ricketts (triple jump silver medallist); Wayne Pinnock (long jump silver medallist), Rajindra Campbell (shot put bronze medallist) and Kishane Thompson (100 metres silver medallist).”
