Grange announces J$8.5M support to women’s football league

Kingston, 13 February 2025 – The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, has said that her Ministry will be giving Three Million Dollars to the Jamaican Women’s Premier League which will be run by the newly established Professional Women’s Football (Jamaica) Limited.

Minister Grange added that each of the eleven clubs in the League will also receive from the Ministry One-Hundred Thousand Dollars per month for the five months of the Competition, making it a total contribution of Eight-Point-Five Million Dollars.

Minister Grange announced that the Ministry would increase financial support to women’s football at the launch ceremony for the Women’s Premier League on Wednesday (February 12).

Minister Grange said, “I’m a strong advocate for gender equality and promoting women in sports. It doesn’t just mean players but at the leadership and management level, coaches and other professions that go along with the performance of the players. I’m very proud when I see our women stepping forward and doing very well in these areas.”

She said she expected that Professional Women’s Football (Jamaica) Limited would bring more professionalism to women football.
The clubs are Frasiers Whip, Cavalier, Arnett Gardens, UWI Women, Wifi United, Proven Girls, Mile Gully, Los Perfectos, Federal United, Springers United, and Real MoBay.

The League is scheduled to start on March 1, 2025.
