Kingston, 2 May 2025 – The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, has said that Jamaica is being looked at to host future meetings and conferences of international sports organisations.

This follows the successful hosting of the two-day Sports Summit of the Americas in Montego Bay last week. It was the first time that Jamaica was hosting the Summit.

“We had a very successful Summit. The delegates thoroughly enjoyed themselves [and] we were very productive in our discussions,” said Minister Grange.

The Sports Summit of the Americas consists of high level meetings of subregional sports organisations including: Ibero-American Sports Council (CID), South American Sports Council (CONSUDE), and Central American and Caribbean Sports Council (CONCECADE).

The Summit also included the annual meeting of the American Sports Council (CADE) which is a multilateral platform that brings together members of CID, CONSUDE, and CONCECADE towards sharing best practices in developing sports policies in the various countries and across the western hemisphere.

Minister Grange said this year’s Summit discussed the staging of several major sports events across the Americas during the next few years including the FIFA World Cup 2026, the 2027 Pan American Games, the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027, as well as the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Those events “will have a tremendous impact on our region and on our athletes,” said Minister Grange.

“We also looked at gender equality with a focus on women in sports as well as a focus on persons with disabilities to ensure there is [greater] inclusion.”

Delegations from more than 25 countries attended the Summit at which Jamaica was elected a vice president of CADE.
