The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, has congratulated Jamaica’s Sherika Jackson who took the bronze medal in the women’s 400 metres at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Monday evening.

“Congratulations Sherika, you’re on the podium. You’ve medalled. Jamaica is proud of you!,” said the Minister.

Jackson clocked 49.85 seconds to finish behind Shaunae Miller (49.44) of the Bahamas and Alyson Felix (49.51) of the United States.

The other Jamaican in the race, Stephenie Ann McPherson, finished 6th in a time of 50.97 seconds.

The Minister said: “I want to say to Stephenie Ann, you are in the top eight in the world, so don’t feel badly.  We are just so happy that you all made it to Rio.  It means that you are among the best in the world.  Jamaica is proud of you and we will celebrate all of you when we get back home.”

We place people at the heart of everything we do.

We believe that culture is the great equaliser and transformer that makes ordinary men and women great.

We believe that gender equality is essential in a modern society.

We believe that an entertained person is a happy person and happy persons make happy societies.

We believe that physical activity enhances lives and sport is the medicine that heals and corrects.
