Kingston, 17 April 26 - The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, says the Government of Jamaica takes careful note of a decision by World Athletics to decline a request by eleven athletes, including four Jamaicans, to switch allegiance and represent the Republic of Türkiye at the international level.

Minister Grange says the Government respects the ruling of World Athletics but understands the plight of athletes impacted. “As the process of adjudication is not yet completed, we do not wish to make extensive comments at this time." 

However, Minister Grange appealed to Jamaicans to show compassion and consideration for the Jamaican athletes.
 
"This is a serious and sensitive issue and should not be used as an opportunity to condemn anyone. I make that appeal to the public, including users of social media. I am confident that all stakeholders will work through the present circumstances."
