“Develop partnerships with our fisher folk — something I know you’re very good at. And together you’ll go a very far way in protecting the environment and helping to replenish the fish stock,” Minister Grange said in a message read by Special Advisor to the Minister, Ali McNab, at the Media Launch for the Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament on Wednesday, August 31, 2016.
The Port Antonio International Marlin Tournament, now in its 53rd year, will run from October 1-8. It is organised by the Sir Henry Morgan Angling Association which is active in the preservation and conservation of the Marine environment.
The Minister further encouraged the Anglers to engage more fishermen and women in sports fishing.
“I believe our fisher folk would appreciate deep sea fishing as the near shore fish stock is dwindling,” she said.
Minister Grange congratulated the Association on organising the tournament each year, noting that it has become an essential activity on the sport tourism calendar, bringing in visitors from the Caribbean, the Americas and Europe.
