Montego Bay 15 December 2018 – The members of the Jamaica senior women’s football team have been presented with the Key to the City of Montego Bay.

The presentation was made to the Reggae Girlz captain Konya Plummer this morning (Saturday) by His Worship the Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Homer Davis at the start of four days of national celebration, organised by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport in honour of the team’s historic qualification to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Finals.

The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment & Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, said she was “grateful for the partnership and support of the Mayor and all the Councillors in the St James Municipal Corporation in the staging of this morning’s event at which the great honour was bestowed upon the Reggae Girlz.”

Minister Grange said:

“Everything that we have planned to celebrate these extraordinary women is well deserved and quite appropriate.

How can we forget that glorious day in October when Jamaica defeated Panama in the Concacaf Women’s Championship to become the first Caribbean country to qualify for the FIFA Women's World Cup?

It was happy reward for years of blood, sweat and tears.  It was the happy outcome after many hours of training, gruelling games, tough tackles and stunning goals.  It was the result of talent, preparation and dedication.

It is an achievement that is well deserved and comes after overcoming several challenges.

The activities during the next few days were designed to make you feel the love of the Jamaican people.  They are also intended to garner much more support as you prepare for France 2019.”

Following the Civic Ceremony in Montego Bay, St James the Reggae Girlz are due to participate in a motorcade beginning at GC Foster College in St Catherine and ending at Tony Spaulding Complex in St Andrew.

Right onto Constant Spring Road going through Half Way Tree Square

Stop in Half Way Tree Square – 15 Minutes

Onwards to Half Way Tree Road going through Cross Roads

Onwards to Slipe Road

Right at Torrington Bridge and across to Slipe Pen Road

Left onto Rosseau Road

Left onto Beachwood Avenue and onwards to the Tony Spaulding Complex
