“I just want to underscore my Government’s commitment to sport and to the ASAJ. Through, the Jamaica Athlete Insurance Plan we are supporting 54 swimmers for: Group Health $175,500.00; Group Personal Accident $12,150; and Group Life $7,859.25 for a total of $195,509.25 for insurance cover under the JAIP,” the Minister said.
Speaking at a welcome reception at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Minister Grange explained that “the value of the contracts for the year ending January 31, 2017 with the insurance providers Guardian Group – Group Health, is estimated at J$47,778,352 and Allied Insurance Brokers/Sagicor – Group Life & Personal Accident, is estimated at just under $6,000,000.”
She pointed out that this is to ensure that all eligible national swimmers can compete and train without having to worry about health insurance.
The Minister also congratulated the team on an outstanding performance at the championship. The 24-member team copped a total of 46 medals: consisting of 18 Gold, 21 Silver and 11 Bronze, over a four-day period.
“The performances were just superb. Kenan Dols, Britney Williams, Simone Vale and all the other swimmers on the team, I stand today as a proud Minister of Sport and a proud Jamaican because of you. Thanks for all your hard work,” she said.
Minister Grange also congratulated the ASAJ for its commitment to growing and developing the sport and the talent of local swimmers over the years.
