Kingston, 1 June 2022 – The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, has said she regrets the passing of another of the Region’s sportsmen of merit, former West Indies cricket all-rounder, David Holford, who died in his native Barbados on May 30, 2022, at age 82.
Minister Grange said:
“The cricketing world will remember David Holford as a player of not too many words but who made his bowling and batting speak for him.
He best showed his batting worth in 1966 at the Lord’s cricket grounds when he made an unbeaten century and in partnership with his cousin Garfield Sobers, who also made a century, saved that particular test match against England. And in the bowling department for the West Indies in 24 test matches, he claimed 51 wickets, his best performance being 5-23 in an innings.
We will also be grateful that David Holford continued to serve the sport after his playing days in the roles of West Indies Selector and Team Manager.
I extend condolences to his family, relatives and friends and to the Regional cricket fraternity.
May his soul rest in peace.”
