Ministry BIG UP! Reggae Girlz

Kingston, 26 July 2023 - The Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport has published a magazine in tribute to Jamaica’s team to the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

It scarcely feels like four years have passed since the Reggae Girlz qualified for their first FIFA Women’s World Cup and here they are again, going to the World Cup again, beaten the odds again, inspiring a nation again.

What the Reggae Girlz have done by qualifying for back-to-back FIFA Women’s World Cup finals, is a really big deal.

BIG UP!, the ad hoc publication, highlights the women who proudly carry the nation’s hopes in this World Cup, from the very prolific captain, Bunny Shaw, who’s on a mission to change football in Jamaica to the newbies who are now part of history. Then there’s the one who makes things happen for the Girlz, their benefactor and motivator, Cedella Marley.

At the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Jamaica will face France, Brazil and Panama in the opening round. Tough opponents for sure, but coach Lorne Donaldson has confidence in the Girlz as the Prime Minister tells them, they can do it.

The Girlz all say it’s an honour to represent Jamaica and that they’ll give of their best. Their best will be good enough.
