Grange Hails JCDC for Promoting Jamaica’s Culture and Creative Talents

Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Honourable Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, has hailed the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) for its continued efforts in promoting Jamaica’s rich culture and creative talents.

In a message delivered recently by Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security, Senator the Honourable Pearnel Charles Jr. at the JCDC Creative Writing and Exhibition Awards Ceremony, Minister Grange said, “I salute the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s continued thrust to promote our culture and creative talents and I implore the Commission to continue to work hard, as your vision remains in sight to become the global centre of Jamaican cultural excellence. Your work of unearthing, developing, preserving and showcasing remains unmatched and life-changing, impacting hundreds of thousands of Jamaicans.”

The Culture Minister also indicated that her Ministry remains committed to creating avenues to foster the creative and cultural expressions of all Jamaicans. She highlighted that the annual Jamaica Creative Writing Competition and Exhibition is one such avenue that continues to act as a launching pad for the careers of a number of Jamaican authors, poets and playwrights.

The Minister added that the competition has allowed many Jamaican writers to recognise their talents and to promote their original pieces as well as the work of other writers. She also expressed that the work of the JCDC, in organising programmes such as the Creative Writing and Exhibition competition, has had a great impact on the local communities and the lives of many citizens.

“This has enriched our community of local practitioners with meaningful exposure and provides them with opportunities to gain access to the local and international literary markets,” the Minister said.

Minister Grange congratulated all the awardees for their outstanding entries, noting the competition’s role promoting brand Jamaica.
