“We are fully committed to ensuring that this league will blossom and grow into one of the top football leagues in the Caribbean,” said Minister Grange at the launch of the JFF/SDF Women’s Football League on Thursday.
According to the Minister, it was an investment being made towards advancing the Government’s priority goal of giving equal opportunity to women in all areas of national life.
“If we see women sport as equally valuable for the development of individuals, communities, schools, clubs and the sport itself, then we would look at how to effectively invest rather than viewing one as competing with the other,” said Minister Grange.
The investment by the SDF, not only makes the government agency the title sponsor, but saves the league which lost long standing sponsor Sherwin Williams. Minister Grange thanked the company for its support of the women’s league over the years and appealed to other corporate entities to “score goals for women’s football”.
Minister Grange said: “Let’s come together and do our part - you can make a financial contribution, you can be mentors, you can assist with provision of gear and equipment, nutritional products.”
The JFF/SDF Women’s League kicks off on August 13.
