Grange hails best woman sprinter Fraser-Pryce

Kingston, 23 September 2025 – The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, has welcomed home members of Jamaica’s team that competed at the recent World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Last night (Monday) at Norman Manley International Airport, Minister Grange welcomed home officials and athletes, including the sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Fraser-Pryce won her 17th and final medal at the World Championships when she helped Jamaica take silver in the women’s 4X100 metres relay on Sunday.

Minister Grange said Fraser-Pryce was the best woman sprinter of all time.

“As far as we are all concerned, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is not only the best woman sprinter Jamaica has produced but is the best the world has seen,” said Minister Grange.

Fraser-Pryce won five world titles in the one hundred metres — the most by any woman.

Minister Grange also praised Fraser-Pryce for her generosity through the Pocket Rocket Foundation.

“In 2013, she launched the Foundation to plant seeds of hope for Jamaican youth by supporting student athletes with academic funding and guidance on navigating their futures. Through community initiatives and developmental programmes the Foundation has made its impact, and we want to congratulate you, Shelly-Ann, on that initiative.”

Fraser-Pryce, who now moves into retirement, was happy with last night’s special reception which was hosted by GraceKennedy for which she’s a Brand Ambassador.

The sprinter reflected on her career at the World Championships which began in 2007 at Osaka, Japan.

“It has been an amazing beginning and amazing chapter, a part of the book and to be able to share the moment with upcoming queens is also remarkable,” said the sprinter.

Fraser-Pryce ends her career at the World Championships with 10 gold and 6 silver and one bronze medals.
