Kingston, 3 February 2022 - The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, has announced that she will be providing support to the tune of Ten Million, Eight Hundred Thousand Dollars ($10,800,000.00) to the Premier League Clubs for the 2022 football season (January to June).
The Minister’s Statement follows:
“The clubs can collect One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000.00) immediately for their January payment and Two Hundred Thousand Dollars ($200,000.00) later this month for their February payment. For the remainder of the period it will be One-Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars ($150,000.00) a month.
The Sports Development Foundation will disburse the money directly to the clubs and I am asking that they contact the SDF now to pick up their cheques for January.
Premier Football Jamaica Limited will also benefit from Government with a similar allocation to assist with administration.
I wish the clubs and the PFJL a successful season in 2022 and hope that their situation will be improved by this donation from the Sport Ministry. Over time, we have assisted the Premier League clubs and the PFJL with funding for their operations during the season of competition.
As the Minister, I would like to reassure the sport sector that we continue to put our money where our mouth is in supporting the various sporting organisations. Sport, as everyone knows, is about wellness, social intervention, recreation and business. It plays a vital role in the economy and in nation building.”
