Grange: Chris Armond’s contribution to Horse Racing was enormous

Kingston, 11 May 2022 – The Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the Honourable Olivia Grange, has described as “enormous” the contribution of Chris Armond to the sport of horse racing in Jamaica and the Caribbean.

Armond has died at age 67 after a short illness.

Minister Grange said:
“Chris was certainly the standard for race horse commentary for many years but his contribution was much more than that, measured against the administrative skills he lent not only to his local racing industry but to those of Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados; with him even doing work in the United States.

We recall that in recognition of his superlative commentary skills, Chris received the Press Association of Jamaica’s Golden Microphone Award and that he was inducted into the Jamaica Racing Commission’s Hall of Fame and also received the Caymanas Track Limited Chairman’s Award.

The impact that Chris Armond made on the horse racing industry in the Region was extraordinary and will not be easily forgotten.

I express my condolences to his family, relatives, friends and associates and to the horse racing fraternity.

May his soul rest in peace.”
